10 Venice-Simplon Orient Express
The most famous train journey in the world and a taste of true glamour from the golden age of travel. The Orient Express has had many ups and downs since its inception in 1883 but current operators, Belmond, are ensuring that the glamour lives on.
The original route from London to Istanbul has changed several times over the years and Belmond have introduced numerous variations and packages including a service to Stockholm.
Staff and surroundings are all straight out of the top drawer – Cabins, Dining and Bar cars are from the 1920’s and retain many art deco fixture and fittings.
Among practicalities you may want to consider are food and drink. Food is included but drink isn’t! As you might imagine, there are sumptious meals to compliment the lavish surroundings but one horrified tippler wasn’t able to find a bottle of wine for under £65.
If you’re only going as far as Paris you’ll have lots of money left! Spend it here
PS.. A ten pound Tesco clubcard voucher is worth twenty pounds in Orient Express vouchers…
