Ten must see destinations for the true rock ‘n’ roll fan. And we’ve found you great places to stay nearby…
10 Seattle, Washington
Home to two titans of the genre – Jimi Hendrix and Kurt Cobain. Visit Kurt’s unfortunate final home at 171 Lake Washington Blvd. and see the unofficial shrine in nearby Viretta Park. See also 1516 11th Ave, site of the Vogue club where Nirvana played their first attended show and now, appropriately perhaps, a ‘specialist’ shop called The Crypt.
For Hendrix fans, his grave at Greenwood Memorial Park, 350 Monroe Ave. North East is a must. The Frank Gehry designed EMP museum founded by Microsoft’s Paul Allen on the Seattle Centre campus is devoted to popular culture of all kinds and has substantial permanent exhibitions devoted to both Hendrix and Kurt Cobain.
Where to stay? Double rooms from about $159 at The Hotel Max, Seattle whose 5th floor is devoted to the Sub Pop record label.
